Congrats Hilltoppers

This might be a day late but I was out sick yesterday, but I felt like I should finish up the Sun Belt Tourney. The Hilltoppers managed to hold of the Panthers 64-56 in the finals. So with an impressive 24-8 record, Western Kentucky is headed to the Big Dance and they will find out their first round opponent on Sunday. Good luck Hilltoppers, represent the Sun Belt!

Sun Belt Tourney Update

I am going to continue to update the Sun Belt Conference Tourney to show my conference pride. The top rated Hilltoppers won their first game and advanced to play North Texas who scored 88 points in their win over Middle Tennessee. The lowest remaining seed is No. 6 South Alabama who knocked off the 3 seed Troy 78-75. The Jaguars are now 10-8 in the conference and their dream of making it to the big dance is still alive! Their next tough test will come tonight against Arkansas-Little Rock in the other semi-final matchup.

Just a quick shout out to other conference tournament finals tonight on ESPN/ESPN2 and the teams hoping to punch their ticket to the big dance. How great is Championship Week!

Baseball Conference Play Begins

Ben Soignier

It must be a sign of spring to come! ULM opens the conference play with a 3 game series against the defending conference tournament champs Western Kentucky. The Warhawks enter this series with a 6-2 record and will find out early on how good their team is. The Hilltoppers were favored to win the league again this season. The Warhawks do have the Sun Belt Preseason Player of the Year Ben Soignier and he is starting to heat up. Ben has five hits in his last nine at-bats. Tonight the Hilltoppers will send Preseason Pitcher of the Year Matt Ridings to the mound and he is sporting a 2-0 record with a 0.00 ERA. It will be a tough test. You can listen to the games online at Warhawks All*Access at http://www.ulmathletics.com/ on the homepage.

Elimination

Bad news Louisiana Monroe fans. The Warhawks were eliminated from the Sun Belt tournament last night with a 66-57 loss to Denver. Denver will now face AR-Little Rock on Sunday in the quarterfinals. Also there is little chance the Warharks will make the NCAA tournament with an at large bid. They end the season with a 10-20 (6-12) mark. Well, there's always next year, and the rest of my life!

Sun Belt Conference Tourney

So the latest with ULM is that the Sun Belt Conference Tournament kicks off today. ULM is ranked #10 in the conference and has a first round game against the #7 seed Denver in Denver, CO. The Hilltoppers are again the #1 seed in the conference tourney. If ULM beats Denver tonight, they will face the #2 seed University of Arkansas-Little Rock on March 8. The championship will be televised on ESPN2 on Tuesday March 10 at 9:00 CT. Go Warhawks!
